COMMENTS

We shouldn't mention specific programs like 'accounting', or even 'business' in either the vision or the mission. I wouldn't even refer to ourselves as a "school of business", b/c it is a school of "bus and eco". I'd hesitate to include references to "innovative" teaching methods, unless someone can define it first; everything we state must be measurable.  Also, drop references to diversity-- this isn't 1965, unless you are referring to intellectual diversity, which is more important than sociological diversity.  Also, don't state 'online' learning as part of the mission b/c very few of the faculty and students seem to be interested in it. Also, to state that we want to have a 'high reputation' is something that may be difficult to measure. The next thing we will have to come up with is an instrument to assess reputation. Finally, AACSB doesn't like us to be doing anything to overtly achieve accredition. The game is more like we should be doing things on our own that happen to qualify us for their stamp of approval, a rather strange distinction.

Also, another thing that AACSB likes to see is "shared governance", but maybe that could be stated in the strategic goals instead of the vision and mission.

proposal 9 is unacceptable

Many of the proposals have at least one or two (if not more) points that should be used in the final list of goals/actions plans.

1.  In each of the eight entries, there are some great ideas and thoughts that represent what a Vision/Mission should be for our SBE.

2.  It is of great concern to include some buzz words and/or some ideas, yet fascinating, however neither can be achieved, nor be accurately measured in a typical lifetime of a vision/mission of about 5-6 years.

3.  We should look with a keen eye on who we are, what we are currently capable of, and what we are capable of achieving in the next 5 years in order to establish a roadmap to realize our Vision/Mission.  Aspiration is great, however, it has to be in the context of the current realities of faculty, students, and institutional capacities; and expected future outlook including resources and other tangible and intangible tools to reach/achieve such aspiration.   Otherwise a Vision/Mission is or will be nothing but empty promises.

Proposal nine must have been submitted by someone from the accounting program?
